Can We Actually Make Running Gear in Australia?
This question has become a project of its own.
How much of TAUDON can we realistically make here?
Not simply design in Australia.
Actually make.
Australian manufacturing presents obvious challenges for a small running brand, particularly when competing against enormous production volumes overseas.
But small-scale manufacturing also creates opportunities.
We can physically handle fabrics.
Make prototypes.
Change something.
Test it.
And change it again.
That’s one reason we’ve been experimenting locally with our performance singlet.
We’re currently exploring extremely simple construction methods, including heat-bonded seams rather than conventional sewing.
If we can create a genuinely functional lightweight garment using a simplified construction process, local small-batch production becomes considerably more interesting.
We’re not going to put Made in Australia on something simply because it sounds good.
The product still has to perform.
But if we can make something here that performs as well as or better than the alternative?
That’s something worth pursuing.
